Urban Pathways, a leading nonprofit (501 (c) 3) homeless services provider in New York City for more than 45 years, serves as the first point of contact for New York City’s most vulnerable residents – homeless adults with multiple challenges to independent living. Through a continuum of services spanning street-based solutions through permanent supportive housing in the community, we serve 3,900 New Yorkers each year. Urban Pathways is seeking a Marketing and Public Relations Manager to lead the organization’s external communication strategy working closely with senior staff and members of the Board of Directors. Additionally, this position will have supervisory responsibilities, managing a member of the development and communications team
Reporting to the Director of Development and Communications, the Marketing and Public Relations Manager's duties include:
Develop a marketing and communication plan including strategy, goals, budget, and tactics
Develop and execute media relations strategy, seeking high-level placements in print, broadcast and online media
Coordinate all public relations activities
Manage media inquiries and interview requests
Advise and direct Development and Communications Manager to engage audiences across traditional and new social media
Monitor, analyze, and communicate PR results on an ongoing basis with bi-monthly reporting
Evaluate opportunities for partnerships, sponsorships and advertising on an on-going basis
Nurture and build relationships with thought leaders to grow industry awareness
Maintain a keen understanding of industry trends affecting the organization, our staff, and our clients and make strategic recommendations surrounding them
Implement strategic redesign materials as needed (ex. newsletter)
Demonstrate a learning mindset and an ability to adapt to rapidly changing on-line marketing environment
Supervise Development and Communications Manager
Attend staff meetings and participate in ongoing training and professional development
Performs all other duties as required.
Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree in relevant discipline preferred.
Minimum of five years marketing and public relations related experience required.
Experience with Raisers Edge or comparable CRM database required.
Experience pitching stories to the press.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including proofreading.
Adept at nurturing and building relationships
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
Demonstrated ability to write persuasive content for articles, op-eds, press releases.
Experience building and integrating a brand across an organization - messaging, graphics, collateral, advertising, website, and social media.
Content marketing and CSM experience plus social media savvy.
Good analytical and problem solving skills
Strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
