New Alternatives for Children, Inc. (NAC) is an award-winning not-for-profit agency in Midtown Manhattan, with a satellite Bronx office, dedicated to serving children and families with medical complexities, chronic illnesses, and disabilities throughout the five boroughs. To assist in achieving this mission, NAC is currently seeking a Per-Diem Bronx Office Receptionist to join its Office Services. General Purpose: Serves as the initial primary contact with clients, guests and other visitors via front-desk and telephone interaction.

•Reports to: Director of Office Services

•Hours: On Call
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Open or close the office
• Greeting clients
• Answer, screen and route incoming telephone calls
• Distributing messages
• Dealing with messengers, deliverymen, lunch orders
• Reception area supervision
• Metro card distribution/petty cash distribution
• Maintenance of Reception Log Book
• Staff Sign-In/Out Sheets maintenance manually and computerized
• Client Sign-In Sheet/Visitor Pass distribution
• Transfer phone to or from the answering service
• Other duties as assigned by the Director of Office Services/Staff Events
Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Processing and coordination of incoming mail.
•Assisting other support staff members in their respective functions, i.e., typing, word processing, bulk mailings, filing of correspondence.
•The ability to interchange job responsibilities with other Support Staff members.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
•Able to manage a mid to large phone console(s);
•Able to work independently; works well under pressure; legible handwriting; and good communications skills.
•Have the ability to follow written and oral instructions effectively and the ability to communicate within a team setting. Good interpersonal and Customer Service skills.
Education and/or Training (Minimum Qualifications for Consideration
•High School Diploma or its equivalent required.
•Experience in general office procedures, 1-2 years of reception experience in an office environment preferred.
•Must be computer literate, have good organizational skills, along with the ability to multi-task.
•Must be detail oriented, pleasant phone manner, and proficient in general office procedures and the ability to work well with the public
•Spanish speaking preferred.
