Description
BASIC FUNCTION:
Provide child and teen victims of domestic violence with supportive counseling in English and Spanish.
Provide non-abusing parent victims of domestic violence with supportive counseling.
Provide crisis intervention and education regarding dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide victims of domestic violence and sexual assault with individual, child- parent, and/or group counseling.
Maintain accurate statistics and records of services.
Refer victims to other agency services and community resources, as is appropriate.
Provide individual counseling sessions for children who have witnessed or experienced domestic violence and their
Provide parent-child (or family) counseling sessions for children who have witnessed domestic violence and their non-abusing caregiver.
Utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)-based therapy practices for counseling sessions with both children and non-abusing parents.
Coordinate partnerships with Family Service League and community organizations to provide on-going supports and interventions to client family systems.
Provide crisis intervention and screening services while assisting in answering The Retreat’s 24-hour hotline.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Master of Social Work, Mental Health Counseling or related field.
License preferred.

SKILLS:
Prior internship or prior clinical work with trauma focused therapy with children and youth.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Spanish/English bilingual required
Good computer skills required.

Skills
Familiarity with family systems theory and relationship issues.
Understanding of family violence and sexual assault issues.
Experience with Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Play Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.
Must be willing to travel and work from both Hauppauge and Riverhead locations with some evenings to accommodate child and teen schedules for counseling services.
Ability to work as a supportive team member
