Description
This position reports to the Community Education Programs Supervisor and will be responsible for coordinating and implementing prevention programming in settings such as, but not limited to, community centers, businesses, schools and other agencies. This position will have assigned in-office hotline shifts and on-call shift rotation which includes, but not limited to in-person hospital, police and court accompaniments for victims of crime. The position requires flexible availability during assigned hotline shifts and the capacity to work remotely. The roles of Prevention Education Specialist are to address the root causes of sexual violence in communities, to be the agency’s voice in the community when working toward the elimination of sexual violence and to assist community members in finding ways they can end sexual violence.
Duties include:
•        Prepare curriculum and presentations/deliver remotely or in person
•        Conduct community outreach and presentations of prevention program to organizations such as, but not limited to, community agencies, elementary, middle, high schools and colleges, alternative school settings, local businesses, and other agencies in the service area
•        Stay up-to-date on research-based sexual violence prevention strategies and programs
•        Prepare project reports and statistics
•        Assist with other prevention program curriculum development and presentation
•        Research effective prevention practices best-suited within community readiness and needs and incorporate into the curriculum as needed.
•        Assist in identifying service area needs in regard to sexual violence prevention
•        Assist in developing an evaluation plan for prevention programs
•        Coordinate community-wide events with other organizations in the service area to build or strengthen community partnerships, and engage local leaders and stakeholders
•        Attend trainings and professional development opportunities regarding prevention of sexual violence


Skills
Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts or social science field such as Psychology, Sociology, Women’s and/or Gender Studies, Ethnic Studies; experience and/or training related to education, teaching or public speaking preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
(BA or BS is welcomed)


Notes
Successful completion of VSC 65+ hour Sexual Assault Counselor/ Victim Advocate Training (provided).
Criminal Record, Child Abuse history and FBI clearance background check required.
Valid driver's license, vehicle and valid automobile insurance required.   
*Spanish language skills a plus.
After a three month period benefits will be available (medical including dental and vision and vacation, sick and personal leave).
