Description
Position Function:
The staff must live in the home. Sunday evening to Friday afternoon or Friday afternoon to Sunday Evening.

The Direct Care Staff (Professional Parent) is responsible for the care, supervision and in home treatment of the three to four youths placed in the Community Home for which the parent is responsible. The Professional Parent assists in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of effective treatment plans for the youths placed. The Professional Parent is also responsible for maintaining a clean, safe living environment which is conducive for the growth and development of the young people served and meets all state, local and agency requirements for health and safety.

Safety Assurance Responsibilities:
-Follow program designated procedures for all physical contact with a youth during safe physical management restraints
-Assist the Parent Supervisor in insuring the provision of medical and dental services as needed and required
-Maintain a clean, well organized home environment which meets State Department of Welfare, Department of Human Services and Carson Valley School regulations and standards
-Follow program designated procedures for the in home supervision of youths placed
-Provide well balance, nutritious meals and wholesome snacks for the youths
-Follow program designated procedures related to youth illness and other emergency procedures;
-Follow program designated discipline procedures
-Teach fire safety and conduct and document monthly fire drills
-When transporting youths maintain safe driving procedures

Treatment Responsibilities:
-Coordinate and monitor the daily activities of the youth
-Participate in the development and implementation of each youth’s treatment plan
-Carry out in home treatment strategies as stated in each youth’s treatment plan
-Provide daily counseling, skill teaching and positive reinforcement to each youth
-Follow program designated procedures for critical incident reporting
-Encourage and support each youth’s contact and relationship with members of his/her natural family
-Maintain frequent contact with each youth’s school to monitor the youth’s school performance
-Meet, upon request, with other service providers ( therapist, tutors, etc.) to receive feedback on the youth’s progress
-With assistance from the Parent Supervisor, connect the youth with community based pro-social recreational and cultural activities
-Advocate, on behalf of the youth, to obtain the community based services the youth needs and is entitled to
-Treat youths served as primary consumer of the Professional Parent’s services by responding to all complaints/concerns in a supportive and timely manner

Administrative Responsibilities:
-Keep the Parent Supervisor informed of the progress and difficulties of each youth
-Participates in weekly in home supervision and bi-weekly team meetings
-Complete each youth’s daily motivation system daily
Complete the Log of Daily Events and Motivation System on each youth daily
Shop, with youths whenever possible, for food, personal care and household supplies
-Shop for clothing for each youth and assist youths in maintaining clothing appropriate for school, play, church, etc.
-Follow program procedures in regard to household repairs
-Follow program designated procedures related to settling household advances
-Participate in program development, implementation and evaluation

Skills
Education/Experience Requirements:
Associate’s Degree or High School Diploma with at least 2 years’ experience with high risk youth considered. This is a live-in position. A driver’s license is not required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs required.
Understanding of the Child Welfare System

Work Environment and Primary Work Locations:
Live in position for five days per week, two days off back to back
