Description
The Housing Retention Specialist is responsible processing Emergency Rental Assistance Payments to ensure clients retain or secure housing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   
•        Screen client application for financial assistance with rent – including back rent, security deposits, etc
•        Enter client application information into City system for processing
•        Contact clients to collect required documentation (leases, pay stubs, rent due notices, etc). Assist clients in obtaining documentation they are missing.
•        Contact landlords to confirm and negotiate back rent due for clients
•        Timely and accurate data entry of client and landlord information and documentation into City system
•        Meet with landlords to explain the financial assistance program, continue any negotiations, get their agreement to the financial assistance plan for client
•        Collect W9 from landlords and verify property ownership in county system
•        Complete BWC check request forms and documents and submit for proper approvals. Submit to accounting in a timely manner for processing payment to landlord.
•        Work closely with Case Managers and Housing Specialists to ensure client housing success
•        Participate in meetings as required. Ensure timely communication with team members regarding client financial assistance
•        Maintain thorough, timely and accurate progress notes, files, and correspondences in AWARDS, HMIS or other systems as required
•        Maintain regular contact with clients and monitor progress, refer to other resources and programs.
•        Participate in agency Program Quality Improvement and Safety activities and initiatives
•        Regular attendance is a requirement of the position
•        Other duties may be assigned.

Skills
High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience as Housing Specialist or Housing Case Manager highly desired. Experience working with culturally diverse population. Must be efficient and organized. Valid CA drivers license with access to a personal vehicle with current Ins. Fingerprinting, TB test & CPR/First Aid required.
