• With the Assistant Department Director, reviews program components, obtaining feedback as appropriate
• Supervise day to day operations of the after-school program
• Monitors participants enrollment and attendance to ensure compliance with DYCD contractual requirements-meeting Enrollment deadline and Rate of Participation (ROP)
• Monitor program files, participants files and personnel files to meet DOH SACC and DYCD regulations
• Maintain and build partnerships with outside agencies to enhance programming
• Conduct program evaluation. Review staff reports and portfolios to ensure high quality work. Include analysis of counselor submissions in final reports
• Identify, obtain and organize educational resources, materials and curriculum guides for thematic periods.
• Review Counselors’ lesson plans with a particular focus on literacy, ensuring that activities are child-centered, age-appropriate, thematic, experiential, educationally sound and engaging. Provide assistance to Counselors in the development of lesson plans. Plan lessons for staff as needed.
• Hold weekly/monthly individual meetings with Counselors to identify individual and group educational needs, review lessons, assess classroom environment, and plan events
• Conduct formal and informal observations of group activities, lessons and classroom environment on a weekly basis
• Develop program themes. Provide resources, lessons and materials to infuse theme into programming.
• Create and maintain an educationally enriching environment including bulletin boards, displays and library
• Model lessons and instructional activities for Counselors as needed
• Develop enriching trip schedule that is aligned with themes and lessons. Provide Counselors with educational materials and help them develop pre- and post-trip activities.
• Assist with supervision of children and/or provide coverage as needed (on or off-site)


Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of one-year program experience
• Other experience required including bilingual in English and Spanish, and experience working with children in afterschool-based setting
