Administrations:

CPS- Child Protective Services encompasses two administrations: Investigations and Family Assessments. Both administrations respond to a variety of child abuse and neglect reports. The family assessments administration focuses on a family-first approach by engaging the family in services without a disposition. The investigations administration also focuses on engaging families, but will result in a disposition or finding.

Permanency- The Permanency administration plays an important role in supporting families in which children have been removed from their caregivers and are now placed in a resource home with resource parents or kin. The Permanency administration works with families to achieve the goal of reunification when possible.

Skills
Knowledge of the principles and practices of social work to provide direct social services to individuals and families. Basic knowledge of the child welfare field for individuals and families. Knowledge of related psychiatric, psychological and medical practices used in the evaluation and treatment. Knowledge of human behavior dynamics; sensitivity to cultural diversity, and communication patterns, to conduct home visits or investigations, develop case plans and provide counseling.

Notes
Qualified individuals must possess:
A Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Required to be a current D.C. Licensed Graduate Social Worker (LGSW) or a D.C. Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) to practice social work in the District of Columbia. A valid driver's license.
