The Actors Fund, a nationwide human services organization that helps all professionals in performing arts and entertainment, seeks a Career Counselor to provide specialized individual and group career counseling services to help members of the community identify, develop and manage their employment options. The Career Counselor plays an important role in helping individuals in the performing arts and entertainment community develop and manage work-life skills as a result of episodic periods of unemployment in the industry.

The Career Counselor and Career Counseling Team works with clients to establish sideline, parallel or career transitions. These individual career plans are accomplished via career exploration activities, labor market research, and the identification of transferable skills or educational opportunities to assist clients in making informed decisions related to their overall career and economic goals. The Career Counselor will also assist clients to develop and pursue career action plans and employment.

This position also facilitates groups, seminars, workshops and panels as well as conducts orientation sessions. Additionally, the Career Counselor will assist in researching, studying, testing and implementing best practices in working to move individuals in the performing arts and entertainment community towards greater economic stability.

•Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Career Counseling or related field preferred
•Minimum of three years of experience in career counseling or coaching
•Passion for the performing arts and entertainment community and knowledge of their unique career needs
•Experience in administrating and analyzing assessment instruments
•Goal-oriented, motivated by the use of data and producing measurable results
•Knowledge of local education and employment/training community resources
•Knowledge of job search tools and strategies as well as of current recruitment and retention strategies
•Experience planning and conducting training sessions, workshops or seminars
•Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
•Ability to work evening and weekend hours as needed

This is a full-time salaried position based in The Actors Fund’s National Headquarters Office in Times Square, New York City.
