Career and Education Specialist responsibilities include:

- Provide occupational assessments, employment eligibility determination, career counseling, job placement, local business coordination, and work experience programs
- Plan and host events with activities that promote career and education development
- Provide workshops and psycho-educational groups and assistance with general education completion
- Provide information and referral assistance, including but not limited to performing outreach and promoting the program and services, linkage with employment resources, organizing community services sites, educational resources, vocational training programs
- Collect information to evaluate the client and family’s needs, and represent the program at community events and county agencies
- Coordinate services with the client’s mental health and case management treatment team
- Chart and document all rehabilitation services administered to clients and documentation associated with the administration and delivery of employment training programs to youth involved in the Juvenile Justice System


Career and Education Specialist requirements include:

- Bachelor’s Degree in education counseling, human resources, liberal arts, human services, or related degree
- Knowledge and experience in career counseling, pre-employment work maturity skills, and child labor laws
- General knowledge of public employment and training programs, general education requirements and completion, and vocational training programs
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to solve employment related problems, keep accurate statistical records, and work in a team environment
- Understand techniques for public and private industry job developing, sales techniques, and the needs of disadvantaged youth facing serious challenges to employment
- Customer service experience and computer literacy are essential
- Demonstrate the ability to work with multicultural and diverse populations with sensitivity and respect
- Valid California driver’s license, auto liability insurance, and a satisfactory driving record
