Description
Responsible for providing individualized and group instruction to adults in English as a Second Language (ESOL) classes as well as assist learners in setting goals and developing, documenting, and implementing education and career plans based upon these goals, and monitoring students’ progress through one-on-one advising meetings. Develop Individual Education and Career Plans based on learner goals, needs, and assessment. Conduct on-going evaluations of learners and projects. Participate in staff and program development activities. Maintain accurate attendance records and student progress notes. Integrate career readiness skills into lessons, and hold separate skills workshops such as resume writing and interview skills. Cultivate new and strengthen existing relationships with employers and work readiness, skills development, transitional, and higher education programs that fit into students’ Career and Education Plans. Establish a strong relationship with Career Centers, accompany interested students to career center orientations, and help students register at centers. Assist with intake, assessment and enrollments. Perform other related duties as assigned from time to time.


Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in education or related field with one to three years of teaching experience with adults, preferably in ABE, ASE, or ESOL required. A Master’s degree in teaching, curriculum development, or related field preferred. Thorough knowledge of job training resources, career centers, higher education programs, and job market in the Boston area is highly preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum design, curriculum development, assessment, and evaluation. Ability to set goals and develop action plans with identified barriers and steps to overcome them and reach goals. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Bilingual skills in English and Haitian Creole a plus. Must be able to work sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse educational, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
