New Alternatives for Children, Inc. (NAC) is an award-winning not-for-profit agency in Midtown Manhattan, with a satellite Bronx office, dedicated to serving children and families with medical complexity, chronic health conditions, significant disabilities and behavioral challenges. To assist in achieving this mission, NAC is currently seeking a Full Time Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Family Support Specialist to join its Family Support Services Department.
The Autism Family Support Specialist supports the agency by helping to manage youngsters with challenging behaviors participating in all program related activities; supervising family visits in the Foster Care Program, specifically visits that require behavioral management; and supporting diversified recreation activities, groups and special events. S/he will become familiar and knowledgeable about the organization, the function of each department, and related policies and procedures. This position supports NAC’s mission to provide the highest quality of care by complying with regulatory guidelines and meeting child welfare industry standards.
Position Type: Full Time; 35 hours/week. Afternoon and evening hours on weekdays; daytime hours on Saturdays.
Pay Range: Based on experience.
Location: Midtown Manhattan (37 West 26th Street, 6th Floor, New York, NY 10010)
•May require traveling to/from our Bronx office, and offsite locations where we are providing services.
Description of Responsibilities:
1.Provide recreation and support to all NAC children, many of which have behavioral, medical or autism diagnoses.
2.Supervise family visits during afterhours and on some Saturdays.
3.Assist in groups and events as needed, on and offsite.
4.Proactively recognize behavioral challenges and react according to each child’s needs.
5.Plan activities in advance of visits in order to provide structure and support to each child’s unique needs.
6.Regularly collect and record data from NAC’s after school program, which includes tracking of CFTSS services in our Electronic Health Record.
Required Education and Experience:
•Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
•Must be familiar with Autism diagnosis.
•Must have training or experience with behavioral interventions, sensory needs, communication systems, social skills interventions and basic adaptive daily living skills.
