New Alternatives for Children, Inc. (NAC) is an award-winning not-for-profit agency in Midtown Manhattan, with a satellite Bronx office, dedicated to serving children and families with medical complexity, chronic health conditions, significant disabilities and behavioral challenges. To assist in achieving this mission, NAC is currently seeking a Per-Diem Youth Development Specialist to join the Youth Development Services Department.
RESPONSIBILITY: The Per-diem Youth Development Specialist will support NAC’s Court Involved Youth initiative, “YouthStrong,” and Sexual Risk Avoidance Education program, “PEER Project.” The programs are both youth development programs supporting pre-teens and adolescents to foster a positive transition to young adulthood. The programs both incorporate educational and recreational field trips/events, youth discussion groups and parent education groups. (S)he has knowledge of the organization and the function of the department and its policies and procedures.
•Assist in supervising pre-teen and teenage youth during weekly recreational and educational activities and field trips
•Assist during weekly youth discussion groups centered around positive development and engagement with peers
•Engage with youth on a personal level, form relationships with youth, and serve as a role model
•Offer 1:1 support to youth who can benefit from individualized support due to behavioral or cognitive needs
•Supervise young children within the agency during YouthStrong and/or PEER Project monthly parent education groups
•Performs additional responsibilities in accordance with agency needs.
HOURS: Approximately 3-7 hours per week. Commitment to attend consistent Saturday activities and discussion groups. Inconsistent weekday evenings or days may be needed.
