Urban Pathways serves as the first point of contact for New York City's most vulnerable residents - people living on the streets, in subways, or in public areas. Through outreach and drop-in center services, transitional, long-term and permanent housing, and comprehensive support services, Urban Pathways helps more than 2,000 homeless men and women take control of their lives and find their way home. We are currently seeking Full-Time & Per-Diems/Floaters Cook for our Programs located in Manhattan, the Bronx & Brooklyn.
As a data-driven and innovative leader, Urban Pathways ensures that homeless and at-risk New Yorkers have the housing, services and support they need to be self-sufficient. Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Cook's duties include:
Prepare and serve meals for shift. Prepare and schedule meal planning for other shifts when other staffers are present.
•Plan menus and run monthly client food committee.
•Wash all dishes immediately following meals when present.
•Prepare kitchen for other meals.
•Advise Director of Operations of kitchen needs and order supplies for kitchen including food and utensils, as needed.
•Thoroughly clean entire work area after each meal including sink, stove and counter tops.
•Record meal count and submit monthly statistics to Director of Operations.
•Attend staff meetings and training as scheduled.
•Perform other duties as assigned.
•High School Diploma or GED preferred.
•Unexpired Food Handlers License required.
•Minimum of two years experience planning, ordering, cooking and serving meals for groups of 30 or more preferred.
•Completion of recent PPD Test prior to employment and annually thereafter required.
•Sensitivity to the needs of the homeless.
•Ability to work as part of a team.
•Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays.
•Ability to communicate verbally and in writing to other team members.
•First Aid Certification preferred.
