Social Worker (Substance Abuse Counselor) – Rose M. Singer Center (Rikers) Reports to: Program Director, Visiting and Family Assistance Program Status: Full-time, Salaried Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm, some evenings required Salary: $70,000 per year Contract position until June 30, 2025 Job Summary The Social Worker that specializes in substance abuse counseling will provide therapeutic counseling services to justice involved women detained at Rose M. Singer Center under the supervision of the Director of the Visiting and Family Assistance Program. Duties and Responsibilities: • Provide holistic supportive counseling and case management services to women experiencing detention and, in the community, once released • Identify the treatment services clients should receive based on severity of substance use diagnosis, stages of change, immediate needs and complete treatment plans using a person-centered approach • Collaborate with client’s support network and other service providers on treatment planning, service coordination, and case management support with the goal of promoting client’s recovery and stability in the community • Use motivational interviewing, recovery and trauma-informed approaches when delivering services • Maintain appropriate client information and documentation in electronic databases and hard files, and submit accurate data on regular basis • Attend internal staff meetings, trainings, and supervision, as well as related external meetings and trainings with resource partners • Comply with all jail procedures, processes and requirements including all security regulations and PREA requirements • Perform additional department or agency related duties or special projects as directed by supervisor Qualifications and Requirements: • LMHC, LMSW or LCSW required • CASAC preferred • Must have experience working with individuals with serious mental illness, and/or co-occurring substance use disorders • Must have experience with various evidence-based models pertaining to treatment of substance use, and mental illness • Experience working with individuals involved in criminal legal system preferred • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Must have the ability to provide effective services and produce accurate written documents in a timely fashion • Must be able to work with people from diverse backgrounds in a culturally- inclusive manner • Must be able to work independently and as part of team • Must be able to have solid, productive boundaries and work cooperatively with DOC and uniformed staff • Successful completion of background investigation by DOC as part of volunteer application process • Computer and technical skills, specifically Microsoft Office programs • Spanish language fluency is preferred Specifications for Physical Requirements: • Flexibility to work evenings or occasional weekends, as needed. • Ability to travel across the five boroughs and to the Rose M.
