This full-time position involves the direct clinical care included in the role of a Mental Health Clinician (MHC), in addition to additional administrative and supervisory responsibilities to support MH health care delivery in the jails. The Senior Mental Health Clinician (SMHC) will report to the Senior Clinical Supervisor or a local Clinical Supervisor if there is no Senior Clinical Supervisor in their building.Examples of Responsibilities:
Clinical Role
Under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor, MHCs provide quality mental health counseling services in the New York City jail system.
• Conducts mental health assessments including initial assessments, psychosocial evaluations, treatment plans, and suicide risk assessments.
• Provides diagnostic assessment and treatment plans upon consultation and co- signature of Clinical Supervisor.
• Provides ongoing mental health counseling to a caseload of patients identified by the Clinical Supervisor.
• Co-leads group counseling (with Clinical Supervisor or Mental Health Clinician) on mental health observation units and other units as assigned.
• Coordinates with Reentry Social Workers for appropriate discharge planning services.
• Completes all required documentation.
• Participates in clinical supervision with supervisor at least 45 minutes weekly and additionally as needed.
• Participates in mental health rounds, treatment team meetings, mandatory trainings and didactic activities.
• Performs other duties as assigned by Clinical Supervisor, Senior Psychiatrist, or Unit Chief.
Administrative Roles may include:
• Provide supervision to other MHCs as assigned.
• Provide orientation and mentorship to recently hired MHCs.
• Provide trainings for the mental health service.
• Participate in recruitment of MHCs.
• Engage in quality assurance and quality improvement activities as directed by central MH leadership.
• Co-sign paperwork as assigned.
• On-call responsibilities may be included if needed.
• Expected to be available during evenings and weekend for remote monitoring/support.
• Performs other duties as assigned by Clinical Supervisor, Senior Psychiatrist, or Unit Chief.
Qualification Requirements:
• A Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology or related field; and
Licensure:
a. Licensed Clinical Social Worker
b. Licensed Mental Health Counselor
c. New York State license in good standing
• At least two years of experience as a Mental Health Clinician or Mental Health Counselor
• A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with other disciplines, including DOC staff
