Description
Rosa Parks Elementary School is a public school located in North Portland, OR, which is in a large city setting. The student population of Rosa Parks Elementary School is 266 and the school serves PK-5. The school’s enrollment is 87% students of color. The student-teacher ratio is 13:1.

Rosa Parks Elementary shares a campus and a concept with partners North Portland Boys & Girls Club, Portland Parks & Recreation, and the University Park Community Center.

A family resource room at the school was designed as a community meeting place, offering computer access as well as information about social services and other community needs.

Campus partners will share the school facilities as well as a new gym and an event room at the community center.

“Rosa Parks Elementary is an excellent example of a school building on a smaller site, centrally located within a neighborhood,” says architect John Weekes, who worked on the project. The building features solar panels and natural light, and includes design elements that meet high performance standards for sustainability. Some of those elements will be used as tools to teach students about sustainability.

Portland Public Schools (PPS) is seeking talented people from diverse backgrounds and experiences to lead change and inspire PPS students. At PPS, every employee, despite having different roles, is an educator. We hope to attract talented educators who model the core PPS  Educator Essentials. With the District’s focus on eliminating systemic racism and its adverse impact on student learning, we seek to hire individuals who bring to our district a deep commitment to racial equity and social justice.
