Description
West End Family Counseling Services has an opening for a part-time Parent Partner/Advocate. This position provides advocacy, referral, and support to families who are requesting or receiving special education services for their child in a public school within San Bernardino County. Works under the direction of a Program Director or other supervisor to provide a range of support services including: gathering resources and information, consultation and advocacy with families, inter-agency communication, staff consultation, making public presentations, and administrative support work within the context of a multi-program community mental health center. This is a para-professional position which REQUIRES someone with significant life experience as the parent or caregiver of a child who received special education services and/or needed assistance with a learning disability or social emotional issues which impacted their school experience. This position requires strong written and oral communication skills, organizational skills, flexibility, and the ability to make independent decisions. The ability to present ideas clearly including developing and delivering presentations to parent and community groups. Minimum high school graduation from fully accredited high school program, valid California driver’s license. Bilingual Spanish/English highly preferred. Prefer candidates with a working knowledge of special education rights and law and some experience providing advocacy services for children, families and/or adults.


Skills
Prefer training or experience in San Bernardino County policies and procedures for providing advocacy and/or case management services. Competent with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. This position provides services at the Agency, in various community locations, and County facilities. The ability to work successfully as a team member, remain cordial, and maintain a professional attitude at all times is a requirement for employment at West End Family Counseling Services.

Notes
Hours per Week:        Approximately - 25 hours per week/ 9 months per year
(This is a 9 month part-time position working September to June to coincide with the school year)
