Program Description: The Metropolitan Apartment Program (MAP) is a transitional housing program targeting formerly homeless clients who are either mentally ill or dually diagnosed as mentally ill and chemically addicted. Funded by the NYS Office of Mental Health and Medicaid, MAP comprises apartments in Manhattan and the Bronx for 87 clients who can function and thrive in a more independent living environment than a traditional community residence. The mission of MAP is to provide a safe and supportive environment where residents partake of rehabilitation interventions that will assist them in the attainment of their work, social and community living goals. A variety of services are available, including case management, substance abuse groups, money management, daily skills training and recreational activities.
POSITION: Recreation/ MICA Specialist
PROGRAM/UNIT: Metropolitan Apartment Program
HOURS: Full-time position 37.5 hours per week
Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 10:30am-7:00pm
Wednesday, Saturday 9:30am-6:00pm
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Facilitate recovery and relapse prevention group, and weekly career club. Provide residents with information and education surrounding all alcohol/substance abuse issues. Individual and group counseling as needed. Complete substance assessments for new clients. Make outside referrals when necessary. Schedule recreational activities for residents. Develop procedures for collection and monitoring of urine drug screening. Document and record all resident interactions. Carry a small case-load. Conduct in-service trainings for staff. And related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: CASAC or CASAC-T required. BA preferred, must have experience working with MICA population and experience in facilitating groups, valid driver’s license, computer skills, ability to interact with all levels of staff.
