MERCI is a private, nonprofit agency providing support to adults challenged by severe developmental disabilities and medically fragile conditions. MERCI offers a community-based functional curriculum program.

MERCI has current openings for DISCOVERY Support Staff, Instructional Aide, and Direct Care Staff. The applicants with DSP I & DSP II are preferred. MERCI is seeking for applicants who are self motivated, responsible and reliable with positive attitude to provide support services for residents with disabilities.

Hours per Week: Up to 40 hours

General Job Specifications:

1. Will assist in ensuring consumer's safety, dignity and well-being as well as providing consumers with any required help in fulfilling their personal and private needs.

2. Will foster positive relationships with MERCI Board of Directors, MERCI staff, consumers, consumers' families and/or care-providers, outside persons and /or agencies such as representatives from regional centers, licensing, local governments and the community at large.

3. Will participate in assessment of consumers' own personal goals for person-centered planning.

4. To perform all other duties as assigned.

5. Bilingual preferred (especially Mandarin, Cantonese, or Spanish).

6. Current First Aid/ CPR Certification is a plus.

7. Ability to perform some lifting, up to 70 pounds.

8. DSP 1 requires to complete the first 35-hour competency-based training course and pass the competency/challenge test within the 1st year of employment. DSP 2 requires to complete the second 35-hour competency-based training course and pass the applicable test within the 2nd year of employment.

9. Must pass a physical, TB test, and a live fingerprint scan.

DISCOVERY Staff Job Specifications:

1. To support consumers' progress and help with monitoring progress to create a partnership with consumer and any additional supports required.

2. To complete all documentation required; to include incident reports, allocation records, consumer charting.

3. a. BA degree in Social Services or related field; one-year experience in Human Services.
b. AA degree in Social Service, related field, or high school diploma; at least four years experience in Human Services.

4. Ability to express ideas clearly in both oral and written grammatically correct in English.

5. Must possess a valid CA Driver's License and a clean DMV record. Ability to drive consumers on activity in the community.

Instructional Aide Job Specifications:

1. To assist the instructor in establishing consumer goals for Individual Program Plans and monitoring progress, working in conjunction with the consumers’ Individual Program Plan/Individual Service Plan (IPP/ISP).

2. To assist the Instructor in implementing curriculum activities at the appropriate level of the consumer in the classroom and off-site to include: social and recreational, self-care, vocational/pre-vocational, and independent living skills.

3. To assist instructor with consumers’ Individual Service Plan, with any documentation required: to include attendance records, incident reports, allocation records, supply requisitions and consumer charting.

Direct Care Job Specifications:

1. To assist in the successful inclusion process, backing away when appropriate.

2. To complete all documentation required; to include incident reports, allocation records, consumer charting.

3. To direct/ work with other MERCI Direct Support assistants and volunteers.

This is a Full-Time position but can be a Part-Time depending on the Clients Service Hours.
