Program Description: This 103-bed women’s shelter in Brooklyn serves a population suffering from multiple issues including mental illness, substance abuse and serious medical problems. The program offers the full range of case management services as well as on-site psychiatric and medical care. It also incorporates a workforce development component for women who can benefit from this service. The Lexington Avenue Women’s Residence is funded by the NYC Department of Homeless Services.
POSITION: Program Aide
PROGRAM/UNIT: Lexington Women’s Residence
HOURS: Per Diem Basis
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist with serving meals and snacks. Maintain appropriate sanitary conditions in dining area. Receive and store program supplies and food deliveries. Assist clients with hygiene, laundry and concrete services. Maintain security in facility. Orient new clients as to guidelines of 85 Lexington. Monitor and report on client interactions. Responsible for making appropriate log book entries. Emergency response and crisis intervention as needed. Fire safety drills and logs. Provide emergency first aid/CPR assistance when needed. Related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or GED required. Basic computer literacy required. Experience providing services to female population, particularly in a shelter environment. Good writing and oral communication skills. Must possess the ability to follow directions and work closely with others. Food Handling, Fire Safety and First Aid/CPR certification or the ability to pass test to acquire these credentials required. CPR training certification or willingness to take training class in CPR.
SALARY: $14.63/ hr
